We connect and support

Underwater technology in Germany.

VISION.

In our network, we develop innovative underwater technologies that make an important contribution to the sustainable use of the oceans. The first step is to understand the complex interactions in the world's oceans. This is followed by activities to explore and record specific potential uses, followed by monitoring the processes and possible effects on the sensitive environment.

Ressources of the Seas as an opportunity

Our vision is to build a brand that is recognized internationally and represents the quality promise of "High-Tech Made in Germany" in this growth sector.

Up to now, German companies have hardly been recognized in international markets due to the lack of a system leader, but also due to the small size of the companies. This is reflected in a very low market share. German companies currently have a global market share of just 3% in maritime technology. In order to exploit this huge growth potential, the competitiveness of the German maritime industry must be strengthened by networking specialist skills and developing systems.

The use of deep-sea resources represents an enormous technical and scientific challenge with equally enormous innovation potential. In terms of technological challenges, it is certainly comparable to ambitious space programs, such as a flight to the moon, but has considerably more potential repercussions for human life and national economies.

Growth through networking

There has been a significant increase in activities in the deep sea, particularly for the development of new oil and natural gas deposits and for underwater mining. Due to the sharp rise in global energy demand expected in the medium to long term, deposits that were previously considered uneconomical are increasingly being tapped and energy sources such as gas hydrates from hard-to-access areas of the sea or from the deep sea are being identified as potential future energy sources. The importance of environmental policy measures to protect marine fauna and flora will therefore increase. As a result, innovative monitoring systems, so-called integrated subsea monitoring systems, are required for researching and observing the deep sea, monitoring the environment (environmental monitoring) and controlling underwater structures (condition monitoring).

A NETWoRK for BuNDLiNG KNOW-HOW

Marine research in Germany and, to some extent, the associated maritime industry have earned an excellent international reputation. As considerably greater resources are already being deployed in other countries, it is essential to pool the expertise available in Germany in order to maximize the benefits and minimize the risks. However, this requires a network that brings together the existing expertise for an economically necessary innovation strategy in the field of deep-sea technology.

With our subsea monitoring technology, we accompany the process chains of the maritime industry from the exploration of raw materials through production and post-processing to safety and environmental management. We develop efficient measurement methods, monitoring and diagnostic options to eliminate potential hazards and prevent environmental damage.

By implementing these technology concepts, we want to make a constructive contribution to reconciling economy and ecology in the world's oceans and to safeguarding the vitality of the earth's blue source of life for the future.

ShapiNg a sustainable future with marine technology

The diversity of our network covers the fields of oceanography, limnology, hydrology, offshore oil/gas, offshore wind and underwater technology.

Great importance is attached to expanding and supplementing our network in a targeted manner and connecting it with the research landscape, important institutions and leading players. In addition to the structural orientation of the network, the focus is on joint technology development. The network partners are primarily companies that specialize in individual components.

Future opportunities, particularly in the field of industrial applications, lie in system integration, i.e. the development and construction of complete systems that can be more easily realized and marketed within a network.

System integration is therefore the overriding objective of the network. Based on the expertise available in the network, interesting future-oriented project and product approaches are identified, prioritized and driven forward. Furthermore, the partners are supported in the fields of market analysis, marketing concepts and PR.
